My Texas History Notebook Awards
This is a great opportunity to share your lesson plans with educators around the state of Texas. My Texas History Notebook Awards is a contest for educators and students designed to encourage creative approaches towards classroom instruction.
General Guidelines:

Participants are invited to apply their experience and submit teaching materials, guided by TEKS, that include primary sources from The Portal to Texas History and learning activities to promote critical thinking.

The lesson plans and primary source sets may be completed individually or as a team project for a classroom.

Each participant may submit one entry per category. Each entry must include a submission form (Category #1 and #2 or Category #3).

The deadline to submit full entries is February 11, 2011.

Contest Categories:
Category #1 Interactive Lesson Plan for Dual Language Learners
Award: A $500 stipend will be given to the top three entries.
Participants are invited to create a lesson plan for dual language learners using our list of suggested topics for Texas History classes. Language modifications of existing lesson plans on the Resources 4 Educators website may be submitted for this category. Modifications must include Spanish translations of worksheets and exercises for Dual Language/Inclusion classrooms.
Category #2 Interactive Lesson Plan for 4th and/or 7th grade
Award: A $500 stipend will be given to the top three entries.
Participants are invited to create a lesson plan using our list of suggested topics for Texas History classes. See example lesson plans on the right for guidance.
Category #3 Primary Source Sets
Award: A $250 stipend will be given to the top eight entries.
Participants are invited to create a Primary Source Set based on a Texas History topic of their choice. Primary Sources from the Portal to Texas History will encompass 50% of the content. Additionally, entries must include one interactive learning component. This is a good choice for entries created with student input, such as classroom projects or student/teacher collaborations.
