OVERVIEW
In this lesson, students will examine the key events, major themes, and defining characteristics of the Early Statehood era of Texas history.
LESSON TIME

This ready-to-use classroom slideshow contains the warm-up exercise, the daily objective, the “We will / I will” statements, and the essential question for the lesson.

Warm-up and Exit Ticket
In this printable warm-up / bell-ringer activity, students will use an answer bank of nine response options to identify information that they believe is true of Texas during the era of Early Statehood. Students use prior knowledge from the previous unit to accomplish this task.
In this exit ticket, students will students complete a matching activity connecting events from the reading to the information that best describes the significant effects of each event.
The Warm-up and Exit Ticket document includes two warm-ups on the front of the page and two exit tickets on the back of the page. This formatting reduces the number of copies needed, as teachers will cut each printed page in half. Each student will receive a half-page with the warm-up on the front and the exit on the back.

Grade Level Work
In this printable assignment, students will read a passage written at a grade-level appropriate Lexile Level that is divided into smaller chunks. Students complete a chart demonstrating the cause-and-effect relationship of significant events from the reading. The Cause-and-Effect activity is integrated throughout the reading to provide more guidance as students work to identify the necessary information required to complete the portions of their chart.

In this printable assignment, students will read a passage written at a grade-level appropriate Lexile Level with key information presented in bold font. The reading is divided into smaller chunks. Students complete a chart demonstrating the cause-and-effect relationship of significant events from the reading. The Cause-and-Effect activity is integrated throughout the reading to provide more guidance as students work to identify the necessary information required to complete the portions of their chart. Foundations work provides two response options for students to choose from when identifying the correct cause or effect of each event.

In this printable assignment, students read a passage written at an advanced Lexile level. After the reading, students complete a chart demonstrating the cause-and-effect relationships between events from the reading. There are five causes or effects given, and the student will fill in the missing information. There is one additional row in which the students will create their own cause and effect relationship based on events from the reading.
